This is a very impressive project. I have worked in conventional Power Projects, with Naphtha, Gas, Oil and Coal. The concept of of this “Solar Thermal Power Station” by Nevada Solar One is to use to use Solar Radiation as the heating source for the fluid which will in turn heat up water to generate steam through conventional turbines (power generation block).
This is not our typical Home Solar Energy project - its a full fledged power station!
Here are some interesting facts on this solar power project shared by Acciona Solar Power:
- 15000 Homes in Nevada will receive power from this
- The location has one of the best solar radiation in the US
- Planned Energy Output = 130 MW Hr / year
- Peak Power Output: 64MW
- 184000 hyperbolic panels spread on 4 acres made from 7 million tons Aluminium
Reference: Shaine Ebrahimi of Green TV Productions, contributed this report about Nevada Solar One, a 64 MW concentrating solar power plant just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Green TV Productions produces Life On The Green Side and Global Warming: The Tipping Point.
