Learning how to make a small solar panel generator is not difficult, and you don’t have to be an engineer to do it. The complex technical stuff has already been done during the production of the solar energy components, and you just have to assemble the components at your end, which should be simple once you read the instruction manual if you have bought a solar energy kit.

By using parts available at your local hardware store you can make a small solar panel generator for under 250 dollars. With this solar power generator you can power everything from your computer, modem, and VCR to your television, lights, and DC appliances.

One of the best features of a solar panel generator is that you can use it on the go, and so when you are traveling you no longer have to worry about looking for a power source because you will have this solar panel generator to offer all the power that you need.

Getting Started: To make a small solar panel generator you first need to gather together the equipment and materials that you are going to need. First you need to buy a small solar panel, which you should be able to find for less than $100, and then pick up any deep cycle 12-volt lead or acid battery. You will also need a battery box to put the battery in and a 12 volt DV meter which you can typically find for anywhere from $20-$30.

The next step in making a small solar panel generator is to buy a DC input, and also an inverter that will work by converting the stored DC power in the battery to AC power which will be required for most appliances. Using a drill you want to attach the meter and the DC input to the top of the battery box, and then use some insulated wire to attach the meter to the wing nut terminals on the battery itself.

Once you have completed this all you need to do to finish off making the small solar panel generator is close the lid on the box, put it out in the sun, and simply leave it there until it has charged up. This will usually take about eight hours if you have the solar panel in direct sunlight and are charging a completely dead battery.

The advantages that you will receive from using a solar power generator are truly incredible, as not only will you be saving yourself money and hassle but as well doing your part for the environment, which is even more important, especially in today’s day and age where issues such as global warming have become so imperative and dangerous.

If you are looking to buy flexible solar panels then here are some tips. You may think that the process is simple but if you want to get the best quality and price that you can then you must put have a plan for buying. The first step is to determine your options because then, you can decide better, which models and specs suit your needs. What may be the perfect for one person may not be best for you. So please list your needs/requirements/expectations before checking suitable solar panel sellers for you.

Buying Tips
If you are heading out to buy solar panels you want to remember that it is best to compare them by dollars per Watt in order to find the best value. Used solar panels are a great bargain and you can typically find them for a fraction of the price of a regularly priced solar panel. However used solar panels do produce less power per square foot than new panels because although they are very durable and will withstand the test of time very well, the solar cells will die off over time and so you will be able to produce less energy overall.

There are a few things you are going to want to watch out for if you do decide to purchase used solar panels, and for one, avoid panels that have any obvious damage unless you are going to fix them up yourself. Loose connections between the actual solar cells in a panel cause also causes serious problems so try to avoid buying any used panels that have this problem as well.

If possible, you should try to test a solar panel before purchasing it, and to do this you just need to set your voltmeter to DC volts and then measure across the + and – terminals of the panel.

Common Applications of Flexible Solar Panels
There are many different uses for the solar energy generated from Flexible Solar Panels, like powering remote homes or weekend cabins, electrical fence charging, disaster power systems, irrigation systems, pavilion lighting, medical refrigeration, battery charging and maintaining, novelty lighting systems, remote health clinics, water pumping from wells, weather stations, radiation measuring equipment, pond aeration systems, security and parking lot lighting, and more.

There are many types of solar panels today, and flexible solar panels are rapidly becoming popular because they are more versatile and portable and you don’t have to worry about breakage or wearing down like with other types of solar panels. Flexible solar panels extremely portable, and perfect companions for charging laptops, mobiles, even RVs.

If you are looking for low cost flexible solar panels, then there are a few such models like PowerFilm 20 Watt Rollable Solar Panel, which is actually considered as the leading lightweight flexible solar panel. Brunton SolarRoll, Sunlinq, and Sunforce are also popular for flexible/portable solar panels. Most models range from $50 to $300 depending on their power output.

These integrated solar panels are produced using a unique roll-to-roll process, resulting in the creation of a supply and truly rollable panel that is unlike any of its competitors today. These panels are particularly great because they perform so well in such an array of different and diverse conditions and they come ready to connect to batteries and an array of handy accessories.

The ICP PowerFlex flexible solar panels are also good — powerful enough to charge RV batteries and field electronics, and still very lightweight and easy to transport. Incredibly durable and versatile, the solar cells used in these panels incorporate NASA and military standard technologies for rugged construction and innovative design.

You can choose from 5, 10 and 20 watt flexible solar panels, all of which roll easily into their convenient storage tubes. All models come with reinforced corner brackets which make them even more durable and versatile.

Remember when choosing a flexible solar panel to look for one that is going to suit your own specific needs as best as possible. Consider what you are going to be powering with this solar panel and then determine what size and specifications you should be looking for. Also remember that although these panels typically come for a reasonable price you do not want to go with the cheapest because its worth having a quality solar panel that has better specifications with some form of guarantee.

Here’s an interesting report on solar cells by Reuters from Chicago.

Here’s a finding reported on Sunday in the journal Nature Materials, which offers a new way to process conventional silicon by slicing the brittle wafers into ultrathin bits and carefully transferring them onto a flexible surface.

US researchers have found a way to make efficient silicon-based solar cells that are flexible enough to be rolled around a pencil and transparent enough to be used to tint windows on buildings or cars.

“We can make it thin enough that we can put it on plastic to make a rollable system. You can make it gray in the form of a film that could be added to architectural glass,” said John Rogers of the University of Illinois.

It opens up spaces on the fronts of buildings as opportunities for solar energy,” Rogers said. Solar cells, which convert solar energy into electricity, are in high demand because of higher oil prices and concerns over climate change.

The new technology could be used on car windows, generating enough electricity to power the GPS or air conditioning.

Many companies, including Japanese consumer electronics maker Sharp Corp and Germany’s Q-Cells are making thin-film solar cells, but they typically are less efficient at converting solar energy into electricity than conventional cells.

Rogers said his technology uses conventional single crystal silicon. “It’s robust. It’s highly efficient. But in its current form, it’s rigid and fragile,” he said.

Rogers’ team uses a special etching method that slices chips off the surface of a bulk silicon wafer. The sliced chips are 10 to 100 times thinner than the wafer, and the size can be adapted to the application.

Once sliced, a device picks up the bits of silicon chips “like a rubber stamp” and transfers them to a new surface material, Rogers said. “These silicon solar cells become like a solid ink pad for that rubber stamp. The surface of the wafers after we’ve done this slicing become almost like an inking pad,” he said. “We just print them down onto a target surface.”

The final step is to electrically connect these cells to get power out of them, he said. Adding flexibility to the material would make the cells far easier to transport. Rogers envisions the material being “rolled up like a carpet and thrown on the truck.”

“The work could create new ways to use silicon in photovoltaics – as ‘tinting’ films in architectural or automotive glass (like sunroofs); as large area ‘rollable’ sheets; or as lightweight ’solar skins’ for integration onto structural surfaces on buildings or even aircraft,” says Rogers.

Its easy to get your RV solar power systems, which are now increasingly becoming readily available, and so it makes sense to judge their practicality before opting for such an option. You need to realize whether such RV solar power systems will suit you when you go camping and whether they are indeed portable enough and also durable so that they will last a long time. These questions must be addressed as too the cost effectiveness and ability to produce enough energy for regular usage.

Not Needed Where Full Hook-Ups Exist: There is no doubt that RV solar power systems are ideal for the road and whether you go camping or for other excursions they will suit your needs, though it is their practicality that must be known before taking the plunge and installing them on your RV. For example, if you are going to a place where there is full hook-up and so the practicality of RV solar power systems in such situations is open to doubt though it can still serve as an adequate backup in case of a power outage, though it may yet turn out to be an unnecessary expense.

However, if your intention is to enjoy the freedom of the wide open spaces where there is no hook-up, and going off the beaten track is what you think is going to be more fun, then you could consider having RV solar power systems which will come in very handy if you are in a quiet location, or by the stream, or out there in the back of beyond. Having RV solar power systems in such circumstances would make it altogether unnecessary to look for another campground or other spot with full hook-up.

Thus, RV solar power systems are really practical for those who want to go to places where there is no hook-up as it provides a practical and effective solution to their energy needs and allows for going to places off the usual track and can make for a more comfortable outing even in the remotest of places.

It is also not difficult to operate RV solar power systems and the same is the case when charging the batteries with the help of solar power, though not all RV solar power systems are the same and so you must plan for the type that suits you the best. It is thus necessary to determine the energy requirements that will suit your RV needs after which you must go out and buy as also install the solar panels, inverters and batteries that should then be able to output sufficient energy for all of your needs.

If you need help with determining the amount of energy you will need for your excursions, you can always go online and search the Internet where there are many websites that will provide you guidance on this matter and which will also explain the components required to generate that much energy. And, to meet different energy requirements, there are RV solar power systems available in all sizes that will fit different needs.

In this post, we will quickly see the Solar Power Cost Trends.

Using solar energy is a great way to save on utility bills (and also to help save the planet).

But most people’s good intentions are nipped at the bud when they discover the cost of converting their home to solar power.

When we last did our check around end-December 2007, very few homes in America run “entirely” on solar/hydro/wind power. But the future is bright with reducing solar power cost trends.

Solar power cost trends have gone down since the 1970’s an continue to go down every year as more and more companies are determined to lead the way in the relatively new-old field of solar power.

The standard to determine solar power cost trends is called the cost per watt. In 1982, the cost per watt was $27. In 2003, this has dropped to $4. This is expected to drop even further.

Solar power cost trends for the initial installation are also going down. Most states now give tax breaks or tax refunds to any homeowner converting to solar energy.

Many US states and European countries have other green incentives, especially in sunshine-heavy California. But even the temperate New York also has tempting green incentives. Because of the ever-fluctuating world of tax and banking laws, be sure to check with your Department of Energy and your local tax accountant to see what you can get back.

Making the huge commitment to converting your entire home to renewable energy is a huge leap that you may not be able to soundly make.

But there are still other ways where you can choose green energy over non-renewable energy sources. Solar power cost trends have gone down for common small items such as watches, calculators and cell phone chargers.

You can even get the air pump or water heater for your pool off of the utility grid and hooked up to solar power for only a couple of hundred dollars (US).

The main reason major companies have not embraced solar power is it’s comparative inefficiency with non-renewable energy sources.

You need a lot of room for solar power panels to generate a significant amount of solar power energy. However, not only the cost of photovoltaic cells have gone down, so has their size. I

n many ways, solar power cost trends are mimicking the personal computer cost trends.

Yes, it is possible yo build Your Own Solar Panel

Although commercial manufacturing of solar panels is done in a strict quality controlled environment, for experimental purposes you can build your own solar panel to see how the sun’s energy can be converted to electricity.

Okay, lets get started:

While the most efficient panels are made with silicon, you can build your own solar panel by using cuprous oxide, a material known to cause light to be turned into electricity.

You probably cannot go into a store an buy cuprous oxide but you can duplicate it on a thin sheet of copper.

You will need about one square foot of thin copper plate, two alligator clips and short leads of wire, a wide mouth glass jar, tap water and salt.

The use of a voltmeter, capable of measuring extremely small amount of electricity will be needed to see the end result.

To build your own solar panel you will need an electric stove or hot plate on which to heat the copper sheeting.

Place the copper sheet on the burner and turn it on high and let it sit there for about 30 minutes.

As it heats, you see the plate turn colors and the heat will show the outline of the heating coil underneath the plate.

As it gets hotter it will begin to turn dark until the entire sheet has a black coating.

After the entire sheet is black, turn off the burner and let it sit to cool for about 20 minutes.

As it cools the black cuprous oxide coating will begin to pop off the sheet, leaving a thins coating of red on the copper.

This red coating is needed to build your own solar panel, and while the majority of the black can be rinsed off under running water, it should not be brushed clean.

Salt Water Helps Produce The Electricity

Using the alligator clips, connect the copper sheet to one the top of one side of the glass jar. Attach another clean copper sheet to the other side of the jar. Mix about two tablespoons of salt into hot tap water, making sure it dissolves and then pour it into the jar. Be careful the water does not get on the alligator clips. The two copper sheets should be under water with about one inch left exposed at the top of the car to build your own solar panel.

Carefully place the entire contraption in the sunlight, either in front of a window or carry it outside and expose it to the sun. Using the voltmeter connect the leads to the two alligator and you can see the meter indicate the small amount of power being generated by sunlight, proving you were able to build your own solar panel.

Solar power and energy is really all the rage these days, and it is no wonder why. After all, solar energy is everywhere and its renewable energy that does not emit harmful fossil fuels and greenhouse gases. It is therefore environmentally friendly and now it is becoming cost effective too. The benefits of solar energy are powerful and more people are adopting it today than ever before.

Portable Solar Panel For Mobile Convenience

Whether you have purchased or built your own solar power generator, you are most likely going to be interested in knowing where you can go to find a portable solar panel (also called flexible solar panel by some) — so that if you need to do any traveling you can do so and will still be able to run your electricity needs off of solar energy.

A portable solar panel is especially ideal for people who travel a lot, for instance in a recreational vehicle, because not only can you power the entire vehicle with the portable solar panel but the appliances inside as well.

The Silicon Solar Inc. is one of the companies you can check out for portable solar panels. Besides this they also offer a variety of other solar energy related products including solar garden lights, specialty solar lights, solar spot and flag lighting, solar battery chargers, solar power accessories, solar books, and more. They offer resilient, durable and affordable portable solar panels for a wide spectrum of applications, and their photovoltaic systems are specifically designed to be able to withstand the most extreme temperatures, high winds, and even marine conditions, so that you are ensured the best quality solar panels with maximum longevity.

The Outfitter Satellite Company is another ideal option available to you here, and they offer three different sizes of portable solar panels. This makes it convenient for you because you can choose the proper sized solar panel depending on your particular needs, and the smallest is a Solar Port panel, which is built into a belly pack with a built-in rechargeable battery.

Portable or Flexible Solar Panels are a relatively new solar technology development, and we can be sure they will continue to get more improved every year - because the demand is great and so companies are keen to improve the product. Regardless of where you actually go to purchase your portable solar panel or what you are using it for, the best thing is that you are doing what you can to take care of the environment by using a source of energy that is not emitting harmful gases and polluting the air.

By the way, if you are serious about using Portable or Flexible Solar Panels in a big way - like across your farm or building complex (if you are in real-estate) - then you can contact us and we can suggest some good sources for importing these solar panels. The savings will be clearly visible if your budget is a few thousands or more.

Water heating is actually one of the most cost-effective uses of solar energy and works by providing the hot water that you need for your shower, laundry, and dishwasher, for instance.

Solar energy is the mother of all renewable energies on earth. It is free, needs no fuel and produces no waste or pollution and so it is great for the environment, especially compared to its counterparts. Solar energy is radian energy that is produced by the sun and then converted into usable energy.

People have been harnessing this power for centuries now but never has it been more popular than in today’s day and age, especially when environmental matters such as global warming are so imperative and in our faces.

There are many different practical uses for this solar energy, one in particular being for a solar energy water heater. After all solar energy can be utilized as a form of heat such as solar water heating and these systems are commonly referred to as Solar Domestic Hot Water systems.

Advantages and Benefits

By using a solar energy water heater you will be benefiting in more ways than one. A solar energy water heater greatly reduces the amount of fuel that you need to heat the water and this applies regardless of which specific design is used for the solar energy water heater, of which there are three main components it will consist of, including a solar collector which will convert the solar radiation into usable heat, a heat exchanger which transfers the heat from the solar collector into the potable water, and a storage tank to actually store the solar heated water.

A solar energy water heater is designed to be incredibly durable and versatile, and will last you many years with little to even no maintenance at all. They can reduce your water heating energy needs by up to one-half and because solar energy is renewable and clean, you know that you are doing what you can to protect the environment by switching from more conventional and harmful sources of energy.

Note: Before you make the switch, even though you are aware of the plentiful benefits, please make sure that you are as informed as possible so that you can really make the most of your solar water heater and any other solar powered products and devices that you decide to begin using.
